You are the hero of Dorin’s Den; a small mining town run by a pair of Dwarven siblings nestled upon the Fairheight Mountains. You and two of your companions entered the town following up on a lead of Drow activity. The lead regarding the Drow proved fruitless, but another mystery drew your attention. Workers in the mine had begun disappearing. With your two companions and a few villagers you began exploring the mine. After several hours the workers fate became all too clear. A previously unknown form of Cave Fisher had taken to hunting the gloom shrouded maze of tunnels. Your group might have dealt with one of these abhorrent creatures, but the tunnels contained a mated pair and their voracious hatchlings. The nightmare ended with you being the only survivor to stagger out of the darkness.
The people were thankful for your sacrifice but the sense of despair smothering the small community was overwhelming. So, despite the fact that it was all ready midday and dark clouds were choking off the autumn suns wan light, you packed up your meager belongings and headed down the mountain, hoping to make the old inn outside Elgen before midnight.
…and thus you find yourself slogging through the stormy night, rain and wind forcing your gaze down into the mud laden road. A flash of lightning startles you as it exposes a quartet of people standing in the middle of the road. They appear momentarily dazed, steam floating off their motionless bodies. As they begin to stir you realize that the inn is only a couple hundred yards down the road, dim slivers of light creeping from shuttered windows.
A sudden howling in the distance inspires you to hasten your step, yet the mystery of these strangers intrigues you. Perhaps you can convince them to take shelter in the inn…
